Code of Ethics
The Edmonton Fusion FC Code of Ethics was developed to outline ethical and moral conduct in the practice of soccer, within and outside the club. It provides a guideline for all members of the club including players, coaches, volunteers, spectators, and parents.
No discrimination on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or mental or physical disability is tolerated within Edmonton Fusion FC. Additionally, no physical, psychologic, or any other form of violence is permitted.
A – RESPECT
- I respect the rules established by my coach as well as those of my team and Club.
- I am courteous and respectful to coaches, teammates, officials, spectators, and opponents by using language that is free of insults.
- I accept all decisions of the referees and my coach without ever questioning their skills and integrity.
- I respect the equipment and my surroundings. I do not destroy or steal, and properly dispose of any trash.
- I consider my opponents and the referees are indispensable to be able to play.
B – FAIRPLAY
- I respect other teams’ players and coaches.
- I refuse to win by illegal means and cheating.
- I accept victory with modesty without ridiculing my opponent.
- I accept defeat by being satisfied with the effort made within the limits of my abilities and by recognizing the good work of the opponent.
- I play for fun while trying to win, but I will take pleasure in the game, regardless of the outcome.
- I always acknowledge the effort of my team and the opponents’ team at the end of the game.
C – INVOLVEMENT
- I always try my best to be a good player and person while interacting with others.
- I continue my commitment to my teammates, my coach, and my team to the end.
- I am involved with the game and stay in the designated area for the team next to my coach.
D – INFLUENCE
- I am an ambassador for the values of my sport and Edmonton Fusion FC.
- I accept the mistakes of my teammates and I help those who have more difficulties.
- I honestly support my teammates.
- I understand that selling, consuming, being in possession of, or being under the effect of substances like drugs, alcohol, etc, is prohibited by Edmonton Fusion FC.
A – RESPONSIBILITIES TO PLAYERS
- The coach is a role model for the players and should always behave in a courteous manner.
- Never place the value of winning over the safety and welfare of players. Winning should be the result of preparation and discipline.
- Recognize the limits of the players without ever endangering their health.
- Instruct players to play within the rules and spirit of the game.
- Have the necessary knowledge and be aware of new techniques that can contribute to the development of athletes.
- The coach shall not seek unfair advantage by teaching deliberate unsportsmanlike behavior to players.
- Should not tolerate inappropriate behavior from players regardless of the situation.
- Never encourage players to violate Edmonton Fusion FC rules.
- Players should be directed to seek proper medical attention for injuries and to follow the physician’s instructions regarding treatment and recovery. At no time should a player be put at risk by returning from injury prematurely or by being forced to play while injured.
- Attend scheduled games and practices to fulfill the responsibility of a coach.
B – RESPONSIBILITIES TO EDMONTON FUSION FC
- Adherence to all Edmonton Fusion FC rules.
- The coach must behave in such a manner that the principles, integrity, and dignity of soccer are maintained.
- Any problems that cannot be resolved by the coach have to be referred to the Board of Directors.
C – RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE RULES OF THE GAME AND OFFICIALS
- Coaches must demonstrate a working knowledge of the rules of the game of soccer.
- Coaches are responsible to ensure that their players understand the rules.
- Respect the decisions of the referees and encourage the players to do the same.
- Criticism of referees undermines their purpose in the game. Always refrain from criticizing officials in the presence of players.
- Referees should be treated with respect before, during, and after the game.
- Be responsible for their players’ actions on the field and must not permit them to perform with the intent of causing injury to opposing players.
- Develop a strategy to implement and monitor the sportsmanship policies of the league.
- Coaches must not incite players, spectators, or parents, to disrupt the flow of the practice or game.
A – GENERAL
- Have respect for the game, players, officials, parents, coaches, other volunteers, and work with them in a patient, courteous, and consistent manner.
- Under no circumstances, should criticism be demeaning or detrimental to the individuals involved.
- Always portray the Edmonton Fusion FC in a positive light when dealing with the public.
B – FOR BOARD MEMBERS
- Board Members must resolve their problems internally and always put Edmonton Fusion FC before personal goals.
- If a member personally attacks another or if his/her conduct is detrimental to the development of the club or its image, this behavior will not be tolerated and may result in the removal from the position.
- In working with the public, in person, or through correspondence, it is vital that board members always put Edmonton Fusion FC in a positive light and keep the club as a prime focus.
- If found to have behaved in a manner found to be detrimental to the Edmonton Fusion FC, a first violation will receive a verbal warning. A board member may be removed by a majority vote by the Board of Directors for a second offence.
A – GENERAL
- Tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and illicit substances should not be used at a game or practice site.
- Show respect for public property and properly dispose of any trash.
- Treat the match as a game, not as a battle.
- Encourage those around you to display Fairplay.
- Be positive in your actions and words toward players, coaches, referees, and other spectators.
- Try to learn the rules of the game if you don’t know them so that you may understand and appreciate the games.
- Refrain from coaching any player. The coach is the only one who leads the team.
- Practice empathy to the other spectators and participants.
B- PARENTS
- I know my child’s limits and respect his/her choices.
- I teach my child to play for fun, but also to actively participate.
- I avoid any incitement to violence and do not use offensive language.
- I teach my child to be humble in victory and dignified in defeat.
- I respect the decisions of the officials, no matter how questionable they may seem.
- I remember that on the field, as well as at home, I remain a role model for my child.
