Let the 2019 soccer in French Camp begin!

The 2019 edition of the Soccer in French Spring Camp kicked off this Saturday, May 11 at Rutherford School in Edmonton’s French Quarter. This year, more than 100 kids, between the ages of 3 and 10, are discovering or improving their soccer skills entirely in French!

The first session was an opportunity for the children to meet with their friends and discover new ones. The program: practice sessions, mini games and a lot of fun!

The players present were able to kick the ball surrounded by their parents and several curious spectators. The spring camp attracted a large number of French-speaking or English-speaking Francophones and their families. In total, more than 200 people who live in the greater Edmonton region came together for the “beautiful game”.

Small novelties

The camp regulars may have noticed new faces among the coaches! They play for the Edmonton Fusion in either the competitive or recreational adult programs. Amongst them, two former high-level professionals, including the new technical director of the club, Job Lilango. Others have played in important leagues in Québec.

Although the camps officially started on May 11, the children were able to receive their new jersey the week prior at the Cité francophone. Another new feature, parents could print the name of their young star and his or her favorite number!

The only French soccer camp in Edmonton will run every Saturday morning until June 22nd. It allows children to improve their soccer skills and to practice the French language outside school.

The soccer camp in French would not have been possible without the support of its many partners.
