A Difficult Return

The season resumed after a 15 day break for the holidays. Several players started this year by participating in the exciting EDSA All-Star Game. In contrast, team Fusion’s return to competition was not easy.

All-Star Game

Edmonton Fusion FC was represented by three of its players in the Edmonton Soccer & District Association All-Star Game. The best players of the Gilhespy division (in which Fusion plays) met those of the Purger division. A well-matched game, suspense was kept until the final moments a narrow 7-6 victory for the Gilhespy team. Fusion goalkeeper Joris Desmares-Decaux played the first half while Jonathan Bélanger and Madhi Mohamud alternated on the field throughout the game and assisted one of many goals.

MYC Knight – Edmonton Fusion FC

The first game of the season was a painful moment for Fusion. After a first period well defended against one of the best teams in the league (3-2), the team completely sank in the second half with several defensive errors. A defeat of 11-3 and a moment to forget for the Fusion.

Edmonton Fusion FC – Krieger FC

A smaller blow against the Krieger FC team. Despite missing some key players, Fusion mastered its first period with a goal by Mathieu Gascon allowing the Blues and White to lead 1-0 at halftime. The opponents pressed more in the second half and not surprisingly equalized (1-1). Despite some good offensive plays, the Fusion shot itself in the foot by making a few defensive mistakes. The final result was a disappointing 1-3 defeat.

Hungaria FC – Edmonton Fusion FC

In the previous game against Hungaria FC, Fusion lost 5-0. This time, the team stepped up their game, showing a different side of themselves. Fusion player Éric Brown scored first on a good pass from midfielder Guy Tcheutchoua (0-1), but opponents caught up before half-time (1-1). Hungaria FC goalkeeper made many saves, frustrating the Fusion strikers. Unfortunately, the opponents scored a goal 5 minutes before the end (2-1). A 2-1 defeat, but a step in the right direction for the young team.

Fusion players accepted the challenge of representing the club at the “Curling in French” event organized by the ACFA régionale d’Edmonton and Fédération du sport francophone de l’Alberta (Alberta French Sport Federation). It was an opportunity for our players to show their talent on the ice and to represent Edmonton Fusion FC in the Francophone community!
